Origins of Mirror Work
The whimsical craft of mirror work or shisha kari was born in the streets of 13th-century Persia and made its historical journey to India in the Mughal era. At the turn of the 17th Century, the Banni Jats from Balochistan tried to make this craft their own. Over the centuries, the states of Gujarat, Haryana and Rajasthan too attempted to capture its essence. Yet, bold and untamed, much like the modern woman, it weaved its way across India, leaving a shimmering legacy.
